With over 20 years combined experience in the Children’s Court jurisdiction. Families and children are our passion.
We are members of the Victoria Legal Aid Panels in Child Protection, Youth Crime, and Family Violence and are members of the Law Institute of Victoria.

Sonya was admitted to practice in 2005. Since that time, she has worked in a variety of roles in both private practice and government.
Sonya has practiced in the Children's Court since 2010.

Graduating in 2011 from Deakin University, Alana holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice). She was admitted to practice in 2012. Her experience in the Children’s Court jurisdiction extends back to 2007.
Alana is also a qualified mediator and worked at the Children’s Court before joining Victoria Legal Aid i

Child Protection
McDonald Boyd Legal specialise in child protection matters and are qualified to provide advice and representation in the Children’s Court in Victoria. We predominately appear in Ballarat, Horsham and surrounding areas but will also appear in matters in Geelong & Bendigo from time to time.

Family Violence & Personal Safety applications (Intervention
Orders):
Often there is an overlap between child protection proceedings in the Children’s Court and family violence.
Our service can extend to assisting our clients in making an application for or responding to an application for a family violence order.
Youth Crime
We represent children, both existing clients and new, who have been charged with a criminal offence in the Children’s Court.
We are members of the Victoria Legal Aid Youth Crime panel.
